III. History and Journey

The Humble Beginnings

MC Craft LLC was born from a simple observation made by our founder, Minh Chi Chu, during a family gathering in Honolulu in late 2019. A relative had received a personalized leather wallet as a gift – but the engraving was shallow, the leather was cheap, and within months, the personalization had faded completely.

That moment sparked a question: Why should personalized items sacrifice quality for customization?

With a background in industrial design and a lifelong passion for leatherworking, Minh began experimenting with laser engraving technology in a small garage workshop. The first products were simple – leather keychains with names, basic coasters with monograms. But the quality was undeniable.

The Breakthrough (2020-2021)

The COVID-19 pandemic changed everything. As people sought meaningful ways to connect while physically apart, personalized gifts became more important than ever. MC Craft LLC officially incorporated in 2020, launching our first product line: engraved leather hats.

The response was overwhelming. Within six months, we had fulfilled over 5,000 orders. Customer photos poured in – ranchers wearing hats with their brand, veterans displaying their service branch, fathers beaming over Father’s Day gifts. Each image validated our mission.

Expanding the Vision (2021-2022)

Recognizing the demand for diverse personalization options, we introduced our second product category: engraved whiskey glasses. The transition made perfect sense – the same precision laser technology that worked on leather produced stunning results on glass.

By late 2021, we had outgrown the garage workshop. MC Craft LLC moved to our current headquarters at 1001 Bishop St STE 2685A in downtown Honolulu, acquiring industrial-grade fiber lasers capable of engraving metal, glass, and dense leather with microscopic precision.

Going Global (2022-2023)
